Emma Smith (she/her)

Hello! I’m Emma Smith (she/her). I am a psychotherapist-in-training and I am currently completing my practicum internship at Roamers Therapy under the supervision of Gwendolyn Hickey, LCSW.
I come from the world of theater, sketch comedy, and writing. I believe each of us has a unique story and background that informs how we move through the world today. I am excited to explore this story with you and help you feel empowered to tell it. As William Shakespeare once said, “What’s past is prologue.” Our history can help us explain and navigate the present, as well as plan for our future.
As a student of the modern psychodynamic method, with an emphasis in feminist and multicultural lenses, I strive to build a partnership in the therapy room. A blend of psychodynamic (looking at the past) and person-centered (looking at the here-and-now) strategies can help us navigate current issues and inform how we process through old patterns. A good balance can keep us grounded and focused on building our authentic lives and pursuing our therapy goals. I enjoy discussing the mind-body connection and how our bodies store our feelings and experiences; it is truly amazing how we hold our histories in our physical forms.
The journey towards healing is a powerful one, and my goal is to make sure you have support as well as tools to assist you on your journey. My areas of interest include but are not limited to depression and anxiety, LGBTQ+ issues, unpacking religious trauma, and processing grief in its many forms. I hope to create a space for us to work through the hard things, because we are worthy of being seen and heard and validated. Grab a pen, because we are going to write something new, together.
