Kenisha Adams (she/her)
Hi, I’m Kenisha Adams (she/her). I am a provisionally licensed psychotherapist at Roamers Therapy under the supervision of Shaysa Villa MSW, LCSW.
As we journey through life, we encounter difficulties or issues that might challenge us. We solve some of these challenges, but sometimes, these challenges unfold and don’t turn out how we wish to be. These unfolded challenges might impact our sense of self, sense of others, and sense of the world. My aim is to join you in this healing journey to process the challenges that you experienced in the past, determine what we can do for your current day, and provide you with materials that can help you along the way for the future. I firmly believe that significant challenges bring remarkable growth with it. As your therapist, I will help you to see different situations from different angles and re-discover your strengths.
From my experience working with clients, I’ve come to understand that the connectedness between client and therapist is unique and fundamental. I aim to provide you with a safe and supportive space rooted in the rapport between you and me to explore and find meaning in your experiences at your own pace. In my ever-evolving expertise, I have observed how accurate the analogy “The longer you hold on to the glass of water, the heavier the glass becomes until you can no longer hold on.” is. From my perspective, the glass of water you hold is the stress. My role as a therapist is to help ease the weight of stress or any other issue you hold on to for a long time. With years of training experience, I have supported many individuals through their journey and helped them to get equipped with the necessary skills for facing various challenges, including depression, anxiety, grief, self-esteem issues, family conflict, and navigating life transitions.
My approach to therapy is deeply rooted in evidence-based methodologies, particularly Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), and Solution-focused frameworks. I strive to empower clients to explore their emotions, develop coping strategies, and foster resilience. I strongly advocate for clients to have complete autonomy in sessions, allowing them to be in the front seat of their conscious decision-making. I provide clients with a safe space to express their thoughts/feelings freely and without judgment. Healing is a journey itself, and I, as your clinician, will guide you. I understand that change can be scary! However, working through that change is rewarding for your personal growth and well-being. I hope to be there next to you, embarking on the healing journey.
