Angelika Lewis (She/They)

Hi! I’m Angelika Lewis(she/they). I am a psychotherapy fellow at Roamers Therapy under the supervision of Shaysa Villa, LCSW.
As human beings, we exist in relationship to a larger ecosystem, including our families, neighborhoods, global communities, and the earth. As such, we have evolved to live and heal within the context of others and not alone. Even though we are wired this way, many of us have suffered relational and attachment wounds or have been socialized to suppress difficult emotions, impeding our ability to process and integrate these experiences. As a therapist, I believe that my role is to cultivate the conditions that allow individuals, couples, and families to expand their curiosity, self-awareness, and sense of what is possible, in the service of working towards identified values and goals. My therapeutic approach is strengths-based, relational, and person-centered, acknowledging how adaptable and inherently intelligent our minds and bodies are, and that individuals are experts of their own lives and experiences.
I use an eclectic approach that takes into account the unique makeup and range of experiences of each individual. I have training in behavioral and psychodynamic modalities like ACT, DBT, ERP, relational cultural, and narrative therapies. By addressing the dynamics of our inner and outer worlds, we can see how systemic harms like ableism, (cis)sexism, racism, etc., impact our perceived sense of safety and belonging, often resulting in heightened and prolonged states of anxiety and depression. By discussing what is and isn’t within our control, we can develop trauma-informed strategies that reduce harm, increase resources, and support.
I have experience working with youth and their families, ages 5+, college students, neurodivergent, and LGBTQ+ folks, as well as concerns around trauma, emotional regulation, executive functioning, OCD, anxiety, and depression. Neurobiological research that points to the importance of healing through connection may be relatively new, but ideas, practices, and rituals around healing and grieving collectively have been around for millennia, and I invite others to be curious about their own lineages and cultural practices as they embark on this often difficult, but extremely rewarding journey.
Personal
I enjoy being in nature, anything related to water is a plus (kayaking, canoeing, floating in salt water), being with family and friends, moving my body to music, and learning.
