Life’s challenges can be overwhelming; everyone deserves a space to feel heard and supported. As your psychotherapist, we are here to guide you every step of the way.
Self-esteem is confidence in one’s own worth and abilities. However, many of us struggle with low self-esteem, where we may not feel confident or capable, are overly self-critical, and excessively worry about perceived opinions of others. Oftentimes, this impacts our motivation to pursue goals, new challenges, or social situations out of fear of not being “good enough.” Not only does this impact the relationship with ourselves, but also the relationship we have with romantic partners, family, friends, and colleagues. At Roamers Therapy Chicago, we hope to help you identify reasons for why you’re experiencing low self-esteem and discuss methods for improving your sense of self-worth and confidence.
Factors that contribute to our self-esteem include our feeling of competence, sense of belonging, identity, feeling of security, and self-confidence. Self-esteem may also be referred to as self-confidence, self-regard, and self-assurance.
Low self-esteem can be rooted in other mental health issues, including anxiety, depression, and post-traumatic stress.
Treatment options that can help improve self-esteem are psychotherapy, medication, support groups, and techniques for improving our sense of self-worth.
At Roamers Therapy we serve clients residing in Chicago experiencing self-esteem issues by offering and conducting psychotherapy, education on methods for increasing self-esteem, and referrals to support groups. In addition, we may also assess and make referrals for you to seek medication if we notice you would benefit from medication, if appropriate and deemed medically necessary.
We are proud and committed to take a culturally sensitive approach to help communities of color in Chicago such as Black, Indigenious, and People of Color (BIPOC) navigate how self-esteem issues may be experienced in their own unique way. We notice that there is a special approach to helping the BIPOC community navigate treatment for self-esteem.
